We all have our own ideas of beauty and what it looks like. But a woman named Brandalyn completely changed how we all see ‘beauty’.
Brandalyn Mae Porter works in a nursing home in Texas. A while ago she took a simple photograph, and it’s changing people’s perspectives on what is ‘beautiful’.
Every day we’re surrounded by images of ‘beautiful’ women, all of which are usually in their early to mid-twenties, with silky hair and soft clear skin. To many of us, that’s what we consider to be beautiful.
From a very young age, we’re taught to try and emulate that beauty. We’ve constantly been force fed society’s ideas about beauty. And no matter how impossible it may be for us, we’re constantly trying to achieve it for ourselves.
But, these ‘beautiful’ women we see on the covers of magazines don’t even look like that in reality. They’ve been airbrushed, are covered in makeup, and have the blessing of perfect lighting to make them look even better than they naturally are.
We’ve been taught to hide our ‘flaws’, bumps in the wrong places, our freckle covered noses. But, it’s these ‘flaws’ that actually make us beautiful.
